To prepare a temporary mount of an onion peel and observe its cells under the microscope.
๐งฐ Materials Required
- Onion
- Forceps
- Slide and Cover Slip
- Iodine Solution
- Dropper
- Microscope
- Blade and Water
๐งช Procedure
- Peel a thin transparent layer from the inner side of an onion using forceps.
- Place the peel on a clean microscope slide.
- Add a drop of iodine solution to stain the cells.
- Gently place a cover slip over the peel to avoid air bubbles.
- Place the slide under the microscope and focus to observe.
๐ Observation
Rectangular shaped cells with a distinct nucleus and cell wall are visible. Iodine stains the cell wall and nucleus.
