Detailed procedure for preparing and observing onion cells under a microscope

๐ŸŽฏ Aim

To prepare a temporary mount of an onion peel and observe its cells under the microscope.

๐Ÿงฐ Materials Required

๐Ÿงช Procedure

  1. Peel a thin transparent layer from the inner side of an onion using forceps.
  2. Place the peel on a clean microscope slide.
  3. Add a drop of iodine solution to stain the cells.
  4. Gently place a cover slip over the peel to avoid air bubbles.
  5. Place the slide under the microscope and focus to observe.

๐Ÿ” Observation

Rectangular shaped cells with a distinct nucleus and cell wall are visible. Iodine stains the cell wall and nucleus.
